Introducing Ko-fi

Introducing Ko-fi

I realize that I’ve never done a proper post explaining what, exactly, Ko-fi is. I’m really excited about this patronage platform and I hope you get excited as well.

Ko-fi is another social fundraising platform like Patreon. The difference is Ko-fi actually supports the creators in a more meaningful way.

The main service is an interface to tip or subscribe (support) a creator. Creators like me are never charged a fee through Ko-fi for using this service. Any amount you choose to support us with goes directly to us. There is no other platform like this in existence.

There are so many more features. Just on a basic plan, creators can create blog posts, photos/galleries, videos, and audio files to share exclusively on Ko-fi. These can be open to everyone or, Patreon-style, hidden behind the subscription paywall. It’s coded well and really easy to use for the creator and the visitor.

Creators can also set up a shop for digital or physical products. That’s where all the Tick: A Short Musical materials are. More’s coming soon. Creators can set a threshold for spending that gives you access to the subscriber only material without subscribing. Ko-fi can handle distribution of digital products, or the creator can do it all on their own.

The newest feature I’m playing around with is commissions. It’s the easiest interface I’ve explored for this for any kind of work. Again, this could be physical or digital work. I can set the exact instructions, total number of commissions, and price for every aspect with ease. It took minutes to make something work that I’ve tried to build from scratch or implement on other services without a lot of luck.

I’ve just opened them for Sketching Details. You can pay a one time fee to choose a film, book, or PC game for me to review here, record the audio version, and create a video review on TikTok. You can pay a little extra to add on a longer YouTube video for a deeper analysis. For games, you could even add on to get me to stream the game on Twitch with commentary.

I’m really excited with the possibilities that Ko-fi offers. Even if you don’t support me, I encourage you to check out the creators using Ko-fi. There are artists, writers, animators, musicians, actors, directors, choreographers, podcasters—anything you can imagine. So many of us are just releasing free content because it’s easy to do. You can check out all my haunt photos from 2020, or a recap post every day of what new content went up where.

I’m going to be adding more content soon to my Ko-fi. I hope you bookmark it and see what new creative endeavors I’m working on before anyone else.
