I'm a big Joyce Carol Oates fan. She is an accomplished novelists, poet, literary critic, and even banged out a great non-fiction book on boxing. Oates is arguably one of the strongest short story writers in America today. Here she is reading her story "The Knife." The use of repetition when the woman becomes anxious drives me wild. It's a very natural reading that places the emphasis on the writing itself rather than the content. I rather like that for this story.
