Imagine That - IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic - I have a feeling I wouldn't change the channel on this one, but I won't shell out the cash for it. It looks cute:
And a load of tiny limited releases: Blast!, Dim Sum Funeral, Flicker, Food Inc, Moon, Sex Positive, Street Dreams, Tetro, Youssou N'Dor: I Bring What I Love - there are some surprises here, as I think three or four of these made it past their first really tiny weekend for a slightly expanded release (Food Inc, Moon, and Youssou N'Dor... for certain). Good on them.
Food, Inc. - IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic - My new release pic for the weekend solely because it feels like the type of doc that people want to talk about and will be enraged if it somehow manages not to score an Academy Award nomination:
Sketchy Rec: I'm in the mood for love and fantasy and fun this weekend. How about Lil' Abner? The score is infectious, the brightly colored sets are gorgeous to look at (even if they are just painted flats), and the story is sweet and humble and funny. As a bonus, I believe the entire cast actually sings their parts in this big Hollywood adaptation of a musical that surprisingly became about Cold War paranoia from a sweet little comic strip about Applachian stereotypes. Plus, you can't go too wrong with a musical that features Stubby Kaye:
