The Pacific Rim Universe Grows: Sequel, Cartoons, and More

This is not a drill. Do not adjust your dial. Everything is going to be okay. Guillermo del Toro has officially announced that Pacific Rim will be taking over the world. The beautifully shot, wildly entertaining, and kick-ass female character-starring kaiju v. mecha film is getting a whole lot of new content in the next few years.

To translate, the famous Academy Award-nominated sci-fi master Guillermo del Toro is promising a Pacific Rim sequel on April 7, 2017. This includes the return of Mako Mori, the best female protagonist in a sci-fi film since Ellen Ripley in Alien. If the whole film could just be about Mako Mori beating up monsters and bad guys, I think we'd all be happy.

But wait, there's more. Guillermo del Toro is developing an animated series inspired by Pacific Rim. So, more Mako Mori kicking ass on the small screen? Good. Good. That's what we need.

And the comic series is going to expand beyond the initial Tales from Year Zero run, which can only mean more of the best Jaeger-piloting team in the film, Sasha and Aleksis Kaidonovsky, aka the pilots who knew no fear when Gipsy Danger almost blew up the hangar.

I do not have the adequate words to express my excitement here. I'll leave it to one of the most underrated movie sequels of all time to do the heavy lifting for me. Oh happy day, indeed.
