This year, I will be participating in the Extra Life gaming marathon fundraiser. All my details are here. Extra Life is a charity event to raise funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. It all started back in 2008, when the Sarcastic Gamer Community decided to memorialize one of their young members with a charity drive. The girl, Victoria Enmon, struggled against acute lymphoblastic leukemia three times before passing away. Her online friends sent her video games and gifts to keep her occupied and entertained while she underwent treatment at a Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Ever since her passing, Extra Life has run yearly 24 hour gaming marathons to raise money to help children like Victoria all across the country.
So how does this work? On Saturday, 25 October, thousands of gamers around the world are going to play for 24 hours straight to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Most gamers are starting at 8AM. I will be starting at 8PM because I am already scheduled to participate in the Chiller Theatre Expo art and model competitions that day. I will be streaming video games for 24 hours at my Twitch channel.
How does a gaming marathon raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals? Simple. You donate money on my fundraising page (or any other participant's) to sponsor my gaming marathon. The goal set by Extra Life is $100 per participant. Since this is my first year participating, I'm sticking with their goal. I'd like to raise more money than that, but I feel $100 is an achievable goal.
Funds from my Extra Life campaign are going to the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, NJ. I hope you find the time to donate to this cause. To put it in perspective, if everyone who visited this site on a daily basis donated $1 today, we would exceed the fundraising goal before the day is done.
Join me and all the amazing Extra Life participants on 25 October during for our gaming marathons.
