Great news, everyone! After the successful conclusion of the WGA strike against the AMPTP, SAG/AFTRA have also reached a deal with AMPTP.
What does that mean for Sketching Details? A lot.
Film content is easy for me to produce. I love watching and analyzing film, and it is the area of my craft that I feel most confident in at this point.
I took the strike from my fellow writers and performers very seriously. I tried finding ways to keep regular content coming at Sketching Details in spite of film and TV being off the table. Gaming and book content takes a lot of effort, and theatre content is expensive. It was safest to lay back and not cross the picket line than advantage myself with content produced at the expense of unfair contracts.
.This meant skipping the 3rd entry in the #31DaysOfHorror series; that will now be a 2024 release. it also meant shelving a few other projects that I’ll hopefully be able to get out by the end of 2024, if not 2025. Most noticeably, it meant this site lying dormant for a few months. I hate a hiatus, but I’m not a scab.
Now that the strikes are over, I can easily put up a few posts a week again. I even have some drafts in the backlog of films I saw in theaters and never published. The unions did not tell us not to skip out on watching film and television; they asked us to not provide free publicity to struck productions. My reviews have been shared by production companies and even used in marketing campaigns before, so I had no desire to even risk my name being associated with scab work and supporting the producers.
I stand, always, with the WGA, SAG, and AFTRA. Now I can do it in the more public way I built a career out of for many years.
