Announcing: Spookier Times

Yesterday was my 35th birthday. I have a lot of projects in motion right now, but knew I wanted to launch something special in honor of the occasion.

Introducing Spookier Times. This is a new biweekly podcast about everything horror, Gothic, and weird fiction across media. I’m incredibly proud of the project and the opportunities it affords in media criticism.

So what is Spookier Times? It’s the kind of work I try to do on Sketching Details on a much broader level. The episodes are going to be thematically linked in some way. They’ll start with a deep dive analysis of one piece of media. Then, I’ll feature some kind of media in its entirety—a story, a song, a short play, etc.—that also explores the same theme. Finally, I’ll get into some recommendations for similar releases that you might want to dig into on your own.

There’s also a video version of the podcast, which is fully closed captioned in English. I’m working on streamlining the process of offering a print transcript of each episode, as well.

I’ve wanted to put together a podcast for years now, and this feels like the direction I want to go in. I’ll be putting up new episodes biweekly, aka every other week. This gives me time to breathe, plan, and stay on top of new topics emerging in horror, Gothic, and weird fiction criticism.

The podcast is being processed on all the major listening apps right now: Apple, Google, Stitcher, RadioPublic, Overcast, PocketCast, etc. It’s hosted on Transistor, which I went with for a really simple reason: I can easily host multiple programs. In case you haven’t noticed the link on the top of the post here, I’m going to be recording all the posts on Sketching Details from now on. Transistor makes it much easier to organize and share all of that, which makes Sketching Details more accessible than ever.
