Dead by Daylight: Resident Evil and 5th Anniversary Celebration #intothefog
Today, Behaviour Interactive celebrated the five year anniversary of Dead by Daylight. They’ve made this a huge event the past few years and the VOD is definitely a must watch for any fan of the game.
We already learned last month that Resident Evil would be the next DLC chapter in the game. Now we know all of what that entails when Chapter XX releases on 15 June.
The new survivors are Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy. As I predicted last month, because the teaser text was lifted directly from Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles for the Nintendo Wii, there was no way this chapter wasn’t going to have two characters.
The new killer is Nemesis. This was a pretty obvious choice, since Nemesis is the character that Capcom has licensed out for other games before. Its power is T-Virus. His tentacle attack will infect survivors, Plague style, which will weaken survivors over time. Survivors can fight back by using vaccines on the map.
Oh, and he has AI bots. Zombies will spawn with The Nemesis. The zombies can also infect survivors. As shown in the stream, both Nemesis and a careful use of pallets can kill the zombies.
There will also be a new map of the RPD: Racoon City Police Department. It’s a combined inside/outside map taking you from the streets of Racoon City to the iconic RPD headquarters. I’m not holding my breath, but the splash art for the stream suggests that this map may have enough light for me to see while playing.
The chapter will also feature a brand new item to the game. Leon has a perk that lets him spawn a flashbang in the game. They did not show what this does, but it’s exciting for their to be new gameplay for survivors in Dead by Daylight.
A surprise section on “Live Design” laid out major plans for game updates. First, they’re going to focus on balancing the newest killer for two to three updates after they launch so they can actually analyze how the killers play in the game. You can expect new killers to still be updated when the next chapter is released.
Second, there’s a new category of perks coming soon (TM). Survivors will have Boon Totems. These activate when survivors are near a dull totem in the game. They can’t release more details, but it looks like the opposite of hex perks: totem-connected perks that boost rather than punish survivors.
Third, moris are being changed again. Based on feedback to the newest changes (requiring two hooks before a mori), they’re going to change moris from an offering system to some kind of in-game mechanic. As the devs said on stream, “Killers have to earn their moris.” This system is also going to be used to change how keys work in the game.
Behaviour is also looking for artists in the community to collaborate with them on the new merch store. That’s huge. I’ve seen them commission some of my favorite streamers before for new emotes, so Behaviour has a history of doing well with this kind of business deal.
Details on contests, opportunities, and celebrations are going to be announced on DBD’s social media.
If you play on PC, you can test out the Resident Evil chapter in the PTB right now.
