New York Comic Con Suggestions

I think I've waited long enough to announce this on the blog. I have been approved for a full press pass to attend New York Comic Con during the second week in October. That means I will be blogging a lot about the goings on at the convention. Thursday night and Friday (the 13 and 14) will have postings done live from the Comic Con while new posts will appear throughout the following weeks about what I saw and experienced. I'm also a big photo person at this kind of event and will be live tweeting pictures of things that interest me, like shiny signs and glittery costumes. Here's where you come in. What should I see? I haven't done NYCC before and don't know what to expect. I know, for example, that I will be watching an exhibition match of Quidditch just to try and understand why people are running around with brooms and beating each other up. I'll be going to the Adult Swim panels for Venture Bros. and Black Dynamite for selfish reasons (big fan of the series and film, respectively). But what do you want from me?

ADULT SWIM: The Venture Bros 4:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Location: IGN Theater Talent: Jackson Publick (co-creator) and Doc Hammer (co-creator)

The Venture Bros show creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer, perennial Comic-Con favorites, will discuss their original series and answer questions that have been submitted by fans on AdultSwimPresents.com/NYCC. Launched on Adult Swim in August 2004, The Venture Bros. is an inspired spoof of 1960s action cartoon shows such as “Johnny Quest.” The animated series follows the bizarre misadventures of the Venture family, which includes world-renowned Dr. Venture, his dimwitted sons Hank and Dean as well as Brock Samson, their bodyguard assigned by the government to keep an eye on the family who is then promptly forgotten by the Feds.

ADULT SWIM: Black Dynamite 8:15 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Location: Room 1A06 Talent: Michael Jai White, Byron Minns, Kym Whitley, Carl Jones (executive producer), and Scott Sanders (producer)

Black Dynamite is an exciting new animated series coming to Adult Swim in 2012 and is based on 2009’s critically-acclaimed feature film. The series further chronicles the exploits of Black Dynamite and his crew. Cast members Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite), Byron Minns (Bullhorn), Kym Whitley (Honeybee), executive producer Carl Jones, and producer Scott Sanders will host a Q&A and show never-before-seen footage!

I know I want to focus on some of the indie artists, which means a lot of time in Artist Alley, Cultyard, and Comic Artist Alley. Is there anyone in particular you want me to harass meet? I will be bringing a video camera if they're comfortable with being filmed and a huge stack of business cards so they can find what I wrote. It's called whoring courtesy.

I mean, there are even going to be Literary Guests at the convention. That has me geeking out more than when I met R. Lee Ermey at a Fangoria convention when he was promoting Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, but not as much as when he used me to tell off the producers for being rude to fans. The possibilities seem limitless.

What do you want from me? I'm up for covering anything. Check out the links and put in your requests below. If you don't tell me what you want from me, I'll plan for whatever narrow-minded interests I have at the convention despite its relevance to modern pop culture.

Can't wait to hear from you.
